The original version of Photoshop has been around for decades, but it has evolved into something less dependent on computers. What else could Photoshop do without getting completely confusing? Along with the flagship version is a third-tier version called Premiere. A more basic version called Photoshop Elements is available for slower machines that can’t handle the version Adobe provides for a fee.

I was at an outdoor wedding a few days ago and when I saw a friend, I remarked on the new camera he was using. He said he no longer had to carry bulky DSLRs around at weddings and headshots anymore. He’s an iPhone user who shoots video as well. He’s a Sony XA-series photographer and I asked him to shoot some of the wedding photos. He was impressed by the image quality from the XA15. We batted around ideas and he suggested I borrow it for a day. I was happy to comply, hoping the score would work in our favor.

When I say “I was privileged to get my hands on… “, it’s true. The subject of my new article for the adobe website was inspired by the release of a curious new product called “Cloud Build”. Traditionally, Photoshop photos have been rendered on the desktop of your computer. Cloud Build is a product built specifically for Adobe Photoshop Cloud, but being such a cool feature, we just had to demo it for our readers. These days, Cloud Build is not available new, but you can still enjoy the cool Cloud features with a version from long ago. A wonderful tool for working with color is the Color wells tool. It lets you select solid colors and hold down the Alt /Option key while swiping through the color well. You can then drag your mouse across each color in the well to pick that exact color. This is a great tool to use when working on background areas or any kind of color filtering effect.

The Healing tool is used to repair faded, poorly composed or damaged images. It works like a Contact Lenses Effects Tool, and you simply click on the area to repair, click again to remove it, flip the healing or edges, and click one last time to make it permanent. You can use this tool to remove imperfections in the original image, or to create a background colored area from a color swatch. Healing can also be used to place an object into a separate layer. This is a great tool to use if you accidentally out a part of an image.

The Magic Wand tool is a wonderful tool to use when you want to select an area of an image without the need to manually pick and click on each area of the image. It allows you to drag a point around an image, click and drag it to select multiple areas, or even click-and-drag to navigate around an image.

The Move tool allows you easy navigation around images. It works similar to the Command Line tool (also called the Arrow and Arrow Key tools from earlier versions of Photoshop). Simply select the tool, hold down Alt or Ctrl, and drag an image to a new position to navigate. You can use the Move tool to pan, zoom, and scroll an image, as well as move, copy and link objects in an image.
